The Marriott Lincolnshire Resort’s Grand Marquee Pavilion provided an elegant setting for Christian Heritage Academy’s Annual Benefit Dinner and Auction on Saturday evening, April 13, 2019. Co-chaired by Mr. Gil de las Alas, Board Chairman, and Mrs. Keisha Thomas, CHA parent and member of CHA’s PVO leadership team, and supported by a host of parent volunteers, the event raised over $350,000 to benefit the school.
We were honored to have Dr. Wayne Grudem, renowned theologian, author and current Research Professor of Theology and Biblical Studies at Phoenix Seminary, join us as our special guest speaker. Dr. Grudem and his wife, Margaret, are among Christian Heritage Academy’s five founding families who had a dream and a calling from the Lord to establish a Christian school on the North Shore. As we celebrated our 35th year, we were also grateful to have this opportunity to celebrate the faithfulness of the Grudems and many other families over the years who have invested in the mission of CHA.
Along with many parents and friends from our current school community, other founding and many early school families were also in attendance, coming together to celebrate the rich heritage of CHA the countless servants who over the years have invested their time, talents and treasure to establish and develop Christian Heritage Academy as the quality preschool through 12th grade school it is today.
Over 350 guests enjoyed warm fellowship and delicious hors d’oeuvres as they arrived, browsing and bidding on the many auction items on display. Some of the most popular items were special outings and activities offered by our beloved teachers. Before dinner, musical selections were performed by CHA Band Students, directed by Ms. Annie Chung, and “Soli Deo,” CHA’s Upper School Vocal Ensemble, directed by Mrs. Eileen Swanson.
Mr. Gil de las Alas welcomed guests as the program began, followed by Pastor James Ward of Insight Church and school parent, who opened the program in prayer. Dr. Hutz Hertzberg shared remarks and introduced the inspiring video commemorating our 35th anniversary, Christian Heritage Academy, A Legacy of Love, produced by our marketing department in collaboration with many early and current CHA families.
Rev. Stephen Farish, CHA Upper School teacher, introduced Dr. Grudem, who gave a challenging, yet very encouraging message on “The Future of America and Christian Schools.” Other program highlights included honor and appreciation of our five founding families as well as retiring staff members, Mrs. Suzanne Karls, Music Teacher, and Mrs. Cynthia Strull, Admissions Director; and student testimony from Eowyn Coffeen, Class of 2023. Pastor Daniel Strull, of Olive Tree Congregation, closed the program in prayer.
Our thanks to the many volunteers, business and private sponsors, the Board of Directors, and CHA staff members who made this memorable evening possible. Spring Benefit 2019 was indeed a fitting and beautiful celebration of the 35-year legacy of prayer and love that defines CHA.
