Thirteen schools participated in the competition on Saturday morning, October 17. The event was hosted by Woodlands Academy in Lake Forest. (Read the article published in The Lake ForestLakeBluff Patch here.)
“The girls were really amazing,” said CHA Math Teacher and Math Club Sponsor, Mrs. Chambers-Alan. “I was really impressed with their ingenuity and their ability to work together. Moreover, I admire their humility and the way that they honored God first, praying both before beginning the competition and afterward, giving Him all the glory.”
CHA’s Math Club made up two teams of three girls each, and one standby. The competition tested a range of math skills with eight rounds of hands-on problem solving activities such as planning and creating a stable structure using only paper cards to support a stack of books.
The Mathalon was begun by Woodlands Academy “to encourage young girls to pursue studies in mathematics. The opportunity also gave students the chance to compete against groups of their peers.”
CHA Math Club, we are proud of you!
