The Music Department Presents a Feast in “A Christmas Festival”
On Friday, December 14, our music department presented “A Christmas Festival”, a concert feast featuring the bands, strings and choirs of Christian Heritage Academy. From the opening of “Jesus Loves Me” by the Beginning Band to a “Fantasia” from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite performed skillfully by the String Ensemble, to the upper school Soli Deo Choir performance of “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” based on Robert Frost’s poem… our students made music with joy and with excellence.
New to this year’s Christmas concert was our youngest choir of all, Cantate, the beginners’ choir of Grade 1-3 singers, led by our parent volunteer director Mrs. Joyce Ahn. Special and surprising numbers included a “Christmas for Cowboys”, in which Grade 8 Boys’ Ensemble donned cowboy hats, and Soli Deo’s presentation of “This Little Babe” from A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten, which portrayed Christ as not just a babe but a warrior who came to defeat sin and death. The evening concluded with a spirited “Joy! Holiday Fanfare” performed by the Full Instrumental Ensemble.
We are grateful for the leadership of Mrs. Swanson, Ms. Chung, Mrs. Karls and Mrs. Ahn, as they nurture both musical skills as well as a heart of worship in our students. Thank you, teachers and all parent volunteers who made this concert possible. What a wonderful way to celebrate Christ’s birth!
