Dear CHA Community,

I am writing to inform you of an important calendar change along with other items of update for your information.

This past Tuesday, our Spring Faculty In-Service Day had to be postponed due to the significant snowfall and treacherous travel conditions. The rescheduled date is Wednesday, March 17. All teachers will be on campus that day and our offices will be open; however, there will be no classes on March 17.

In-service days are very important for the ongoing professional development of our teachers. These days of training provide an opportunity for our faculty to become even more effective in the classroom; to be further equipped as mentors to our students; and to continue to grow as “Living Curriculum” teachers. The planning and preparation for in-service is intentional and comprehensive. The major focus for this in-service day is continuing work in the areas of Biblical worldview and Biblical integration for every subject. Several other important items are also on the agenda given the opportunity to meet for an entire day.

We had two students over Christmas break test positive for COVID and one Pre-K student since. Also, one teacher tested positive earlier in the semester. Impacted families were immediately notified per our policy. All are back in the classroom after the required quarantine period. We continue to thank the Lord for his continuing hand of health and protection over our school. Your ongoing vigilance with all the necessary safety protocols is greatly appreciated.

We had the opportunity to welcome 28 new students to CHA for the spring semester. Re-enrollment for next year is extremely strong as are the number of new applications. Thus far, we have 92 applications compared to 40 applications at this time last year. We anticipate moving to two sections in every grade with the possible exception of one or two grades in the Upper School. It is likely that we will soon have waiting lists for some grades. We are very encouraged by the strong interest by many new families and grateful for the continuing partnership of our current families.

Our annual Spring Benefit is a yearly highlight for our community. Because of the various COVID restrictions we will not be able to hold the Benefit inside as we have done for many years. However, we are exploring other options, including a more “Ravinia” style gathering. Please save the evening of Saturday, May 08. We will alert you as soon as we are able to confirm the event.

We are so grateful for God’s faithfulness to CHA as we soon come to the three-quarters mark of this school year. Thank you for your support and positive spirit during this unique year, a tremendous encouragement to all of us. Your partnership and faithful prayers for our school are absolutely essential if we are going to realize all that God has for CHA and our students.

Gratefully in Christ,

Dr. Hutz H. Hertzberg
