Congratulations to Senior, Elena Severson, who has been accepted to the Honors College at Abilene Christian University! She was named as an ACU Presidential Scholar, the highest award a freshman can receive, which comes with a significant scholarship. She also received additional scholarships from their computer science and technology department, as well as National Merit Scholarship. Elena will major in Theatre Technical/Design and minoring in Digital Entertainment Technology/Computer Science.
Elena’s involvement in the Theatre program at CHA literally changed the course of her life. Her first taste of performance came through Lion’s Pride as a 5th and 6th grader. Under the direction of Mrs. Sharon James-Ledbetter, Elena also received experience in technical/props and stage design during the 8th grade play. While Elena loves to sing and perform, she found that working behind the scenes on set and costume design and props management opened a creative side of her that she didn’t know God had placed in her.
Through her high school years, under the encouragement of Mrs. Brooke Collins, Mrs. Eileen Swanson and Mrs. Susan Baliles, Elena was able to experiment with and develop those skills, which have now become her passion. In the creative pursuit, she has learned so much about who she is in Christ, His deep love for her, and how she might glorify Him in her future profession. Well done, Elena!
