In COVID-19 Updates, Dr. Hertzberg's Blog

Dear CHA Parents and Students,

I am writing to update you concerning the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and CHA’s proactive work in seeking to both inform and protect our students and staff. We are committed to the safety and well-being of all in our school.

We are closely monitoring developments with this virus including pursuing regular guidance from the Center for Disease Control and the Illinois Board of Health. Additionally, our excellent school nurse, Mrs. Jenny Chan, has been in direct contact with the Cook County Board of Health. We have also connected with other medical professionals including some from our own Christian Heritage families that we are blessed to have as part of our CHA community. I have asked Mrs. Chan to regularly update our CHA community with the current and best guidance that we are receiving. As you understand, this situation is very fluid and continues to develop.

Further, we have proactively requested of our professional cleaning service and our own maintenance staff, to disinfect virtually every common area of our building every night. We have also requested all teachers to carefully wipe down all surfaces in their rooms before leaving, and have requested the same of our staff for their offices. All have received a supply of disinfectant wipes and soon there will be many additional locations of hand sanitizer throughout our building.

We are also daily evaluating such things as as field trips, athletic contests, music events and other curricular and co-curricular activities with the safety of our staff and students as the utmost consideration. As of this writing, we have not cancelled or postponed any activity. Any decision to postpone or cancel any activities will be communicated as soon as the decision is made. Further, we are asking our teachers now to begin to think and plan how they might be able to deliver course material via other delivery modes if it becomes necessary to close school altogether for any period of time. To be clear, no decision to close has been made. These are only contingency plans.

We have established a COVID-19 Task Force (comprised of our administration and school nurse) to continue to evaluate and plan for all contingencies as best we can. I have asked our Vice Principal, Mr. Davis and Mrs. Chan to continue to keep you informed as to any related developments. Any questions may be directed to Mrs Chan, Mr. Davis or myself.

Our family is currently memorizing Psalm 46 which is a powerful reminder of God’s absolute sovereignty and power over all the earth and also that He is “our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” We draw great comfort knowing our Lord is ultimately in control of all things including the Coronavirus. Your prayers for all involved here at CHA are greatly appreciated.
