NORTHFIELD, IL, MARCH 1, 2017 – The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Hutz H. Hertzberg as president of Christian Heritage Academy (CHA), effective July 1, 2017.
Dr. Hertzberg presently serves as president of Christian Union, based in Princeton, New Jersey, where he gives leadership to the organization’s mission of developing transformative Christian leaders at some of America’s most strategic universities (Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford and others) and also to the building of networks of Christian professionals in key cities across the nation.
Prior to his time with Christian Union, Dr. Hertzberg served as the first executive director of The Orchard Network, a Chicago area organization committed to developing next generation pastors and lay leaders for gospel-centered leadership.
Previously, Dr. Hertzberg served for seven years as executive pastor of the historic Moody Church in downtown Chicago, giving leadership to its multiple ministries and staff.
Dr. Hertzberg has also served in several higher education administrative and faculty positions including for over twelve years at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and Trinity International University where he served as dean of the chapel and student ministries, and also dean of students. Prior to that he served as chaplain at Wheaton College, and held various administrative and faculty positions at Judson University, DePaul University College of Law, and the College of DuPage.
Dr. Hertzberg has also served as interim senior pastor at Winnetka Bible Church, director of church planting for the EFCA Great Lakes, and associate director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for Chicagoland.
For twenty years Dr. Hertzberg served as chaplain in the United States Naval Reserve serving mostly with the United States Marine Corps. He continues to serve as the senior protestant chaplain at Chicago O’Hare and Midway airports giving leadership to a team of fifty chaplains and overseeing eighteen weekly chapel services at these airports.
He is a licensed and ordained minister with academic degrees from Wheaton (IL) College (BA, MA) and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (MAR, DMin, PhD).
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Hertzberg and his family to the CHA community,” said Board of Directors President Gil de las Alas. “He brings to our school community a wealth of leadership experience and a passion for Christian education. Most importantly, he has a strong desire to honor the Lord through his skills and talents. Dr. Hertzberg is fully aligned with our mission and we are confident that his leadership and vision will be instrumental as we advance our mission in the next chapter of our school.”
“Christian Heritage Academy has been for many years an educational gem of vibrant Christian faith, academic excellence and student character development – due in large measure to the outstanding staff and faculty, committed parents along with a strong partnership with local churches and pastors,” stated Dr. Hertzberg. “I am very grateful to be able to join with the CHA community at this time of great opportunity and need for an excellent Christ-centered school alternative in this region. We look forward to partnering with parents and pastors in developing the next generation of Christ followers and Gospel-formed students for family, church, marketplace and society leadership.”
Dr. Hertzberg is a long time Chicago area resident. He is married to Lynne, daughter of Norm and Carole Sonju. They have one school-aged daughter, Hiley, who will be in second grade this fall. The Hertzbergs will be relocating from Princeton, New Jersey to the area this summer.
Dr. Hertzberg will begin working on a limited basis beginning in April for the purpose of meeting faculty, staff and families along with other transition responsibilities. He will begin his full-time tenure as president of Christian Heritage Academy effective July 1, 2017. We are grateful for Dr. Roth’s continuing leadership until that time.
Please join the Board in praying for God’s grace and blessing as we look forward to all that God will do through Dr. Hertzberg’s leadership in this exciting next chapter for Christian Heritage Academy.
