Dear CHA Families:
I am writing to update you regarding our ongoing plans and response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
As referenced in my last communique, we established a COVID-19 Task Force a couple of weeks ago. In addition to planning for various contingencies, we continue to closely monitor the guidance from The Illinois Board of Education (ISBE), The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), The Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH), and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), as well as other sources of pertinent information. As you well know, this continues to be a very fluid and developing situation.
We are very thankful to our Lord for his protection over our school. As of this writing, we are not aware of any cases of COVID-19 in our community. Further, I am very grateful for the understanding and support of so many of our parents and staff during this very challenging time. I also greatly appreciate the Godly diligence of our employees with the added responsibilities and extra work this situation has required.
With a strong commitment to the safety and well-being of all our students and staff, and following the best guidance from the various health departments, I want to inform you of the following decisions.
Friday, March 13:
All classes will be held on our campus and our normal schedule will be followed. However, all co-curricular activities, events, games (and practices) are cancelled beginning tomorrow, Friday, until further notice.
Week of March 16:
We will be implementing e-learning (virtual instruction) for all grades K-12. This is consistent with CDC and ISBE recommendations for student safety as well as preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Monday, March 16:
This will be a teacher Inservice day devoted to the further training of teachers on Google Classroom, our chosen e-learning platform. There will be no classes at CHA. Rather, students will have the opportunity to study at home; catch up on assignments; and/or use it as a reading day.
Tuesday, March 17-Thursday, March 19:
These will be e-learning days for all K-12 students with subject and course content delivered virtually. Instructions as to how to use this learning platform will be communicated in subsequent messages. Students will be expected to complete all assignments and assessments as assigned during this week and during all future e-learning weeks. All teachers and staff will be working at CHA during normal school hours providing resourcing and support to teachers and families in utilizing Google Classroom.
March 20 – 29:
This is our scheduled spring break. There will be no virtual instruction.
March 30 – April 03:
E-learning will resume.
Week of April 6:
No decision has been made at this time for the week beginning April 6 in terms of whether school will resume with classroom instruction or whether e-learning will continue. We will keep you informed.
