Christian Heritage Academy adheres to guidance from the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) in regard to sports and practices. We are committed to providing timely updates on this fluid situation, both through CHA Central and direct emails to student-athlete families from Director of Athletics Mr. Jeff Cook. Summarized updates are below, with the most recent first.
1/27/2021 – In accordance with the IHSA, high school sports are resuming competition! What this means for the CHA Lions is:
Girls’ Volleyball
The girls’ season has been moved from a February 15 start date to March 8. As a result of this shift in timing, volleyball has been paused, effectively immediately. We will share more information with you as it made available to us from the IHSA.
Our winter sport practice schedule through February 5 is as follows:
Boys’ Basketball
1/28 – Practice at CHA, 3:30-5:30 PM
1/29 – Practice at CHA, 3:30-5:00 PM
2/1-5 – Practice at CHA, 3:30-5:00 PM
Girls’ Basketball
1/28 – Practice at CHA, 3:30-4:30
1/29 – No practice
2/1-5 – Practice at Christian Liberty Academy, 4:00-6:00 PM
Middle School sports are still on pause, but we are working on alternative programming. Details are forthcoming.
1/21/2021 – We are happy to report that the IHSA, in cooperation with the IDPH, has opened up some athletic opportunities under Tier 2 Mitigations. This means that winter sports may begin individual workouts immediately. Starting on January 25, fall, spring, and summer sports may begin contact days in accordance with the Tier 2 Mitigations.
For CHA, this means:
- Girls’ Volleyball will start working out next week on Wednesdays and Thursdays in our gym after school.
- Boys’ Basketball will be working out on Mondays and Tuesdays.
1/14/2021 – The IHSA Board of Directors met for their regularly scheduled meeting on January 13, 2021. As there are no new developments from the IDPH, the board determined it was not prudent to set the athletics schedule for the remainder of the year. They hope to be able to do so by January 27.
1/6/2021 – The IDPH has made no changes to its COVID-19 mitigations tier status. Therefore, sports will continue to remain on pause.
12/15/2020 – The winter sports start date (and its potential ramifications on spring and summer schedules) remains TBD as the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) awaits guidance from the Illinois Department of Health (IDPH). To date, the IHSA has not made any cancellations.
12/2/2020 – The IHSA Board of Directors decided that winter sports will remain on pause until 2021. We will report any new updates after their next meeting on December 14.
11/20/2020 – In compliance with the newest mitigations issued by Governor Pritzker that took effect at 12:01 AM on 11/20/2020, the Illinois High School Association Board issued guidelines that place all IHSA winter sports and activities on pause. The IHSA Board will revisit the status of winter sports at their update discussion on December 2, and again at their regularly scheduled meeting on December 14 if necessary.
Christian Heritage Academy is responding accordingly, including the following:
-
Pausing all conditioning and weight training
-
Pausing all open gyms
-
Allowing one-on-one skill work between a coach and student-athlete for winter sports only, limited to one coach and one student-athlete per facility
-
Abstaining from organizing any non-school sports participation
Mr. Jeff Cook, CHA Director of Athletics, said, “We know that this pause is disappointing for our student-athletes, coaches, and parents, but this too shall pass. Until it does, let’s all do our part in abiding by the guidelines so that we can return to our season as soon as possible.”
