Dear CHA Families:

Warm greetings to you and your family. I am writing to update you on several matters of interest and importance.

Before the pandemic hit, the CHA Board of Directors approved a modest 2.9% increase for the 2020-2021 school year. However, in light of the COVID-19 crisis and the resulting challenges many families are experiencing, I am pleased to inform you that the Board recently made the decision that there will be no tuition increase for this coming school year. Appropriate adjustments have been made to our 2020-2021 budget. The budget will be presented and voted on at our spring association meeting.

Earlier this week you received via email the closing procedures for picking up students’ items and returning school materials. This message can be viewed here. Thank you in advance for following this necessary closing process for the safety and well being of all. Should you have any questions about this year’s closing procedure please feel free to contact Mrs. Nikki Dinkelman. Also, we have established a Year-End FAQ section on our website with additional school and closing information. This section is continually updated with new information as it becomes available.

The good news is that Commencement 2020 will take place on May 30 as scheduled. Out of necessity it will be very different than what we anticipated and hoped for even just a few weeks ago. The families of our wonderful 8th grade Middle School graduates, and of our outstanding Class of 2020 senior graduates have been recently updated with the finalized plans for Commencement. We have spent countless hours processing the changing orders and guidelines of the various local and state of Illinois agencies. In compliance with state directives, Commencement is limited to the graduates and those living in their immediate households. However, please reach out and congratulate our graduates as they have reached the significant milestone of graduation.

We are looking forward to welcoming our students and families back on campus on August 17 with all the required safety protocols in place. This is our priority plan and we are currently working diligently towards that end. However, as with so many things these past months, there are many factors out of our control as this battle against the pandemic continues. As a result, we are game-planning for 4-5 different possible scenarios this fall. If significant health and safety risks dictate, we will not hesitate to decisively shift to an alternative plan. We will keep you promptly informed of any changes.

Soon you will be receiving materials and instructions concerning our spring association meeting. The agenda includes presentation of the 2020-2021 budget and new board member candidates for association approval. There will be opportunities to submit questions. More information will be emailed in the coming week to all association members.

As we come to the conclusion of this most unique year in the history of our school, we together give thanks to our Lord for His goodness and faithfulness to us in so many ways. Thank you for your flexibility, support, prayers and encouragement as we experienced this unprecedented challenge together. Likewise, I know you join me in expressing sincere appreciation to our hard working staff and teachers who have stepped up to meet the many changes during this time. We continue to trust our sovereign God and loving heavenly Father as we look forward to this summer and the coming school year. Please continue to pray for our school in the very challenging days ahead.

Faithfully in Christ,

Dr. Hutz H. Hertzberg
