Two CHA Seniors Make ILMEA All-State Choir in 2019
On January 26, 2019, two CHA Seniors, Gabrielle Alava and Rachel Kim, participated in the ILMEA (Illinois Music Education Association) All-State Honors Chorus at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, Illinois, as part of the ILMEA All-State Honors Festival. They were two of approximately 200 finalists chosen from all high schools in the state of Illinois.
After rigorous auditions in October, Gabrielle and Rachel had placed in the ILMEA District Senior Ensemble Choir, and awaited to hear of their placement into the All-State Chorus. In early January, they received the news that out of approximately 20,000 students who auditioned in October, they had placed into the All-State Chorus. While there are two levels, they placed into the Honors Chorus. They are the first students from CHA to receive the all-state finalist honor.
They performed under the baton of Dr. Kimberly Dunn Adams, of Western Michigan University. “Dr. Adams was excellent, energetic and kind. We loved singing with so many students and loved the music. We are grateful for this experience and forever grateful to Mrs. Swanson for her excellent preparation and training over the years,” stated our singers.
