Dear CHA Community:

As you are aware, the Governor announced yesterday that Illinois is moving to Tier 3 COVID mitigation within Phase 4. While this significantly impacts certain sectors of our society, it does not mandate any changes for schools.

Therefore, CHA will continue to provide in-person learning as we have during these past 14 weeks, exercising diligence and vigilance in all matters of health and safety within our school. At the same time, we will continue to comply with the directives of the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Cook County Department of Public Health, and the Illinois High School Association (IHSA).

The IHSA is meeting tomorrow to process this latest change in mitigation level. Parents of athletes will be notified directly when the IHSA releases its revised plans for winter sports.

As of this writing, we have no reported positive COVID cases in our school. Further, none of the students quarantined as close contacts are currently presenting symptoms. We praise God for this, and continue to pray for God’s good hand of protection over our school.

I am so grateful for the herculean efforts by our teachers, staff, and virtually every CHA family endeavoring together to facilitate a safe learning environment. Together we will continue to trust the Lord as we do everything we can to allow for in-person learning.

Should it become necessary for us to shift to remote learning, we will notify you as soon as possible. In that event, we are preparing to offer families of PreK-8 students supervised eLearning on campus with members of our staff serving as monitors. Some restrictions will apply. More information about this option will be provided if remote learning becomes necessary.

On another note, I strongly encourage you to enjoy our very special Grandparents’ Day Chapel which is recorded and available anytime. Many of our students participated in this Thanksgiving themed chapel, musically or otherwise. I know you and your family will be blessed in viewing it.

Thank you to all who have already generously supported our Cornucopia fall fundraising effort, “Fuel the School.” We are off to a great start toward our goal of $75,000. We are so grateful for a wonderful and generous CHA family who has committed to match each dollar raised up to $75,000. So please keep in mind that every dollar your family gives to support CHA will be matched, doubling the impact of your gift. Our students also have fun incentives for their classes along the way, and several of us could end up in a cold dunk tank if the goal is realized. Thank you for supporting our school during this challenging time.

We will continue to keep you informed on the progress of Coinucopia and all important CHA happenings. Read all the latest news on our primary communication hub, CHA Central.

As you spend time with family and friends in this special season, please make wise and prudent choices for the safety and health of your own family as well as your CHA family.

We all have so much to be thankful for. I am reminded of the exhortation in First Thessalonians 5:16-17: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

May our Lord pour out His goodness and grace upon you and your family as together we live out this powerful scriptural admonition.

With thanksgiving,

Dr. Hutz H. Hertzberg
President
