Kayla McCoy ’15 Drafted by Houston Dash in 2019 NSWL Draft

As published by Duke Athletics News, January 10, 2019:

After compiling one of the best careers in Duke women’s soccer history, Kayla McCoy is officially taking her game to the professional level after being selected by the Houston Dash in the second round of the 2019 National Women’s Soccer League College Draft at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill.

Houston selected McCoy with the 18th overall pick in the draft, giving Duke 13 all-time selections and at least one pick in the last four drafts. McCoy will join former Blue Devil standout Rebecca Moros as the two DWS players to wear the Houston Dash shirt in history.

The Lincolnwood, Ill., native selection adds to an already impressive career resume, especially after an award-filled senior season. The Duke attacker was named All-ACC First Team, a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American and First Team Scholar All-American, along with a spot on the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team.

McCoy made the most of her final season with the Blue Devils, leading the team with 12 goals and 32 points, along with eight assists. Her goals total is tied for first in the ACC, while her 32 points are second. The All-ACC First Team selection went on a tear through the league slate, recording eight goals, a league high, and posting 19 points, good for second in the conference. McCoy, who recorded at least one point in all but six matches this season, also made strides up the DWS record book. The forward finished third with 15-career game-winning goals, fourth with 38 scores and 92 points and fifth with five multi-goal performances. She was also one of the most decorated Blue Devils in NCAA Tournament history, finishing second in program history in postseason play with 18 points, third with seven goals and tied for seventh with four assists.

Congratulations to Kayla and the McCoy Family. We’ll be cheering for you and the Houston Dash!
