Program Highlights
Every student has strengths, whether academics, leadership, empathy, fine arts, prayer, sports, peace-making, creativity, community-building...you get the picture! CHA students are encouraged to celebrate one another's gifts and successes, and encourage one another in their areas of weakness.
Learning Resource is designed to come alongside students to strengthen areas of academic gaps or deficiencies through additional instruction and practice in reading or math (for Lower School) and organizational and homework support (for Middle and Upper School).
Lower School
Reading students meet with a tutor twice a week for reading instruction through the Wilson Fundations reading program, which utilizes the highly structured Orton-Gillingham approach.
Math students meet with their tutor to solidify what is currently being taught in the classroom through the Singapore Math Reteach curriculum.
Middle & Upper School
In small grade-level groups, the Learning Resource teacher assists students in core subject areas by helping them work on their homework, prepare for tests, complete writing assignments, and by reinforcing/reteaching more challenging concepts from their class curriculum. In addition, students work on organization and study skills.
The Learning Resource specialists also write Student Service Plans (SSPs) for students who have a diagnosed disability and/or health impairment(s) which affects their ability to function in the classroom. The plans help teachers understand the learning needs of their students and provide support to the student in the form of accommodations, classroom and instructional practices, and/or modifications related to their disability and/or health impairment(s).
Meet the Team
When our students face challenges in areas that do not come as easily to them, we want to help them grow to meet those challenges and gain confidence as a result of their efforts.
