Congratulations to CHA seniors Emi Christian and Alexandra Lee upon being named semifinalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Corporation! The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. Both Emi and Alex will now have the opportunity to compete for one of the 7,600 National Merit Scholarships that will be offered in the spring.
Now in her senior year attending Christian Heritage Academy, Emi acts in CHA’s theater productions, leads an after-school Irish dance club for 1st - 5th graders, serves as president of the Student Council, and is a member of the National Honor Society. Outside of school, Emi loves to Irish dance, bake, and read! She also enjoys sailing with her family on Lake Michigan. Emi attends Cityline Bible Church in Niles.
What’s her advice for students interested in obtaining a National Merit Scholarship? “I would advise students to take lots of practice tests," Emi said. "The more tests you take, the more you begin to recognize patterns that repeat in tests."
Alex serves in a variety of positions at the school. She is a member of the Student Council, NHS, tech crew, worship team, and the publicity committee. She also helps other students as a math tutor. In her free time, Alexandra enjoys practicing martial arts and boxing, cooking and baking, and volunteers as a figure skating coach in her community. Alex also attends Cityline Bible church in Niles.
What’s her advice for students interested in obtaining a National Merit Scholarship? “I would say that it's important to work hard in your classes at school if you want to do well on the PSAT," Alex said. "Doing additional practice specifically for the test of course plays a big role, but I also believe that the math and language conventions classes at CHA provide a solid foundation to then implement that additional practice.”
Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom, Emi and Alexandra. Congratulations on your accomplishments!
